Owl Creations

Owl_Inspirational_Art_1

We are crazy about owls in our house. Ever since My Favorite Little Mister read the Guardians of Ga’hoole series {combined with his love of nature & all things animals}, owls have become a permanent fixture in our home. He still sleeps with “Bubo” his great horned owl and this past weekend when the kids got quite an Easter candy haul, I woke up Sunday morning to his newest owl creation. I LOVE my son’s creativity. It never ends. From music to Legos to origami to drawing to building scenes out of colored rocks and now, CANDY!

He made the owl candy for me and I made the Proverbs 9 owl art for him. It hangs in “Owland” {his bedroom} & I will show you more photos of that at another time. I love you My Favorite Little Mister!

Julie

Winter Wonderland {in March!}

Downers_Grove_Photography_Snow_Photo_0009

It is very likely that my family was the one & only family in the entire Chicagoland area yesterday who were excited to wake up to another covering of snow. The latest fall was thick & beautiful & stuck to the trees, creating a “Frozen” wonderland. The above is my Pumpkin-Poos celebrating the latest blizzard & our “quaint” little home.Downers_Grove_Photography_Snow_Photo_0010

I took Pumpkins & her bestie to one of our favorite places: Willowbrook Wildlife Center to see how the owls were liking the snow & it was sooooo beautiful. We were the only ones there!Downers_Grove_Photography_Snow_Photo_0011

After kindergarten drop off, I headed to the Morton Arboretum to take a hike & snap some photos. It was so gorgeous & quiet & yet I felt so guilty not having my family there, so after piano we headed on over & hiked till dusk. One of our favorite old Ranger Rick magazines had a story called “Strange Tracks” & so every time we are out in fresh snow, we search for “strange tracks” & this time we found some coyote tracks which led right to “our” Burr Oak tree! We were the first human tracks in all of that snow! SO COOL! We then spotted the coyote in the forest chasing what we think was a rabbit (as we also found bunny tracks) & so we tried to track them both down, but did not. What an adventure!

I LOVE that my children truly have an awe of nature and that we continue to teach them to respect the earth, conserve, and appreciate it’s beauty. God is so amazing at His handiwork.

Autumn Beauty {Downers Grove – Hinsdale – Western Springs Photography}

Downers_Grove_Photography_0001

Last autumn I had the joy of photographing these 4 beauties. Four sisters, all so beautiful & yet so unique looking from one another … what could be better?! It was my third year photographing them & every year it just gets better. I love getting to know my clients and seeing them grow {already dreaming of senior photos with these models!!!}.Downers_Grove_Photography_0002

The light was obviously dreamy.

These are some of my favorite portraits I have ever taken.

LOVE!Downers_Grove_Photography_0003

“Our roots say we are sisters. Our hearts say we are friends.”Downers_Grove_Photography_0004

Their parent are super stars in my eyes, supporting their girls in so many ways.

And, who could not love a dad who puts up with these photo sessions year after year?!

Thanks for the privilege of creating beautiful memories for your family!

{On My Shelf} The One Year Praying the Promises of God

Life_Verse_Design_Devotional_Book

{Book available HERE}

I am currently knee-deep in a huge book design project & thought I would take a little “blogging break” and share with you another book I have designed for Tyndale House Publishers. The One Year Praying the Promises of God was created for women as a daily devotional to get them into the Word and claim God’s promises in their own lives through prayer. I wanted a scrapbook type of look to communicate a personal, “hand’s on” feel of the book {ie: it is for YOUR personal life! these promises are for YOU!} and the scrapbook collage look also communicates that there are many bits & pieces inside.Stephanie_Ryan_Illustration

I scoured ETSY {where my original shop lives on} and fell IN LOVE with Stephanie Ryan’s light, delicate, and colorful watercolors. While I was in college majoring in illustration, I focused mainly on watercolor painting so I have a great appreciation for her artwork. She graciously agreed to allow us to use her beautiful illustrations and since then, she has been licensed nationwide & is a HUGE success in the industry! Go Stephanie!

OK, back to work! OH & before I forget, I am doing a giveaway over at my new friend Jess’ blog for a chance to win a $50 gift card to my shop! Go HERE to enter the giveaway which ends tomorrow!

Grace & Peace,

Julie
